The realization of Destinations2006 brings a significant observation: its result reflects a collective conquest by an expressive group of protagonists, people and organizations that have been building the course of the World Tourism Forum for Peace and Sustainable Development, since its conception in 2003 up until this 3rd Annual Summit, the last to take place in Brazil, where the Forum was conceived and established its first roots.
Representing 77 countries, more than 4,500 participants – business leaders, governments, social and intergovernmental organizations, media and a broad range of professionals and academics – gathered together from 29th November to 2nd December, in Porto Alegre.
As well as enjoying a rich cultural agenda, they took part in an intensive and productive program made up of 64 technical and institutional events, carried out simultaneously, including meetings, seminars, plenary sessions and, above all, the appreciation of concrete case studies, examples of Quality Tourism: that which generates conditions for peace and promotes sustainable development. With the presentation of 142 new cases, the Forum concluded the triennium of Annual Summits in Brazil with a collection of almost 300 real experiences of sustainable tourism in more than 100 countries.
